Coat: | Medium to long length, soft, close to body with a good undercoat, waterproof. Males have a lion like mane over shoulders and onto the chest, female coat is shorter. |
Character: | This is a very loving , loyal breed, loves water and being close to his people. Perfect child's Guardian, able to pull heavy loads and can be used as a carting dog or just a “Porch Potato”. |
Temperament: |
Very calm and laid back, Patient, gentle and caring. Loves children and all animals, can be somewhat aloof of strangers but never aggressive. |
Care: | This non-drooling breed has an almost self cleaning coat, which sheds twice a year. Rarely mats with minimal brushing. This breed has no “doggy odor” and is happy indoors or out. |
Training: | Extremely Intelligent, easily trained with minimal effort. Young puppies should be taught not too jump, they soon can be larger than you. |
Activity: |
Leonberger’s love lounging in the shade, on a deck, or better yet, a couch! They are avid swimmers and can also enjoy hiking and carrying their own supplies. This breed would do well in obedience. |
