Weight: Dogs - 55-75 lbs

Bitches – 44-65 lbs

Color:

Black, Liver, Orange (biscuit to red with black nose and eyerims), Lemon (biscuit to red with pink nose and eyerims) Markings on White or, rarely Solid Colors Also, rarely, tri-color “A good Pointer cannot be a bad color”

Coat: Short, dense, smooth with a sheen.
Character: The Pointer is bred primarily for sport afield; he should unmistakably look and act the part. Here is an animal whose every movement shows him to be a wide-awake, hard-driving hunting dog possessing stamina, courage, and the desire to go. And in his expression are the loyalty and devotion of a true friend of man.
Temperament:

The Pointer's even temperament and alert good sense make him a congenial companion both in the field and in the home. He should be dignified and should never show timidity toward man or dog.

Care: Pointers are an easy care breed requiring only an occasional brushing and bathing to keep them looking their best. Nails should be maintained at least monthly. They require a high quality diet due to their energy level but are primarily a healthy breed.
Training: Pointers are eager to please and respond well to training. Like any large dog, they should have basic obedience training and will require some training in the field to achieve best results. Consistency is the key to a well-trained pointer. They require patience when teaching new concepts but will retain training for long periods with little reinforcement.
Activity: Pointers are an active breed and require daily exercise and prefer free-running exercise. An ideal day should include several hours of free exercise, but pointers do make excellent and mannerly housedogs. A fenced yard or access to safe open areas to run are best for a pointer, although certain individuals can adjust to less exercise.
Description:

Pointers are a well-kept secret – a high energy field dog that adjusts well to household living as a family member. They are loyal and devoted, kindly with children and other animals. They are low maintenance and affectionate. Pointers make excellent field, show, obedience, agility, therapy and companion animals. They are extremely versatile in their activities and willing to do almost anything which involves their family.
